We encourage reading aloud to your child as often as possible in order to model reading fluency and to share the joy of reading.
Here are some things that you can do which will support your child in class:

Here are some things that you can do which will support your child in class:
- Practice zipping coats and practice tying shoes
- Talk about the sounds heard at the beginning, middle, and end of names and words
- Prior to reading a story, take a picture walk and ask what the story might be about
- As you read a story, ask your child to predict what will happen next
- Talk about the characters and story setting
- Talk about what happened in the beginning, middle, and end of the story
- Practice taking turns by playing board games
- Write, color, and cut to boost fine motor skills
- Compare quantities (Which is taller? Who has less? Who has more?)
- Practice counting…the number of doors in your house, kitchen utensils, shoes in the closet, etc.
- Skip-count by 10s, 5s, 2s
- Practice counting down
- Identify coins and count coins
- Talk about time to the hour on analog and digital clocks
- Look for shapes at home and in your community (rectangular street signs, circular clocks, etc.)
